Wedding Guidelines (approved Sept. 11/08)
The members of the Congregation
of Wesley Memorial United Church wish to help you in every way possible
to make your wedding a meaningful and memorable service of worship. Our
prayer is that your marriage will be a lasting one in which you will
continue to grow in mutual love. We hope the following information will
be helpful as you begin to make your plans.
THE
WEDDING DATE AND RESERVATION OF SANCTUARY
The wedding date and rehearsal
time (normally on the preceding evening) must be booked through the
Minister and Church Office. Availability of the Sanctuary and Church
Hall is confirmed through the Property and Trustee’s Committee. Approval
of a wedding by the Congregational Board is upon recommendation by the
Worship Committee. It is recommended that you attend a pre-marriage
seminar. More information can be obtained at your interview with the
Minister. Once your reservation is confirmed, the Minister will be in
touch to arrange pre-marriage interviews and planning.
LICENCE
Marriage Licence applications
are available at your local Service New Brunswick Office. Please deliver
your Licence to the church at least one week before the marriage
ceremony.
THE
WEDDING SERVICE
The wedding service must be
discussed with the Minister. There is sufficient flexibility to allow
the couple to express their preferences and to develop the liturgy and
vows in a personal way within the context of United Church guidelines.
Those with a desire for ecumenical or interfaith expressions may discuss
them with the Minister. The Minister of Wesley Memorial United Church
will conduct the service, although a guest minister may be invited to
assist. Arrangements for a guest minister must be made in consultation
with the Minister.
Sur Demande, les noces seront
celebrer en francais.
MUSIC
The Director of Music is
responsible for all musical arrangements for wedding services. After the
initial interview with the Minister, the bride and groom are asked to
make an appointment with the Director of Music. The best possible music,
suitable for use in a sacred service of worship, will then be chosen
together. If desired, the Director of Music will be happy to recommend a
soloist. If a guest organist, soloist or instrumentalist is requested,
approval must be obtained from the Director of Music.
FLOWERS
Saturday Weddings:
We would encourage the bride and
groom to leave any flowers placed on the communion table for the
enjoyment of our Sunday congregation. If the bride and groom wish their
names to be printed in the Order of Service, or if they wish the flowers
to be left as a memorial to a loved one, the office should be notified
well in advance.
Also, the flowers will be
acknowledged and distributed to our shut-ins following the Service. If
the flowers are not to remain, please notify the Church office well in
advance so that alternative decorations can be arranged for the Sunday
morning service.
Seasonal Weddings:
Please note that on festive
occasions such as Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas, special decorations
will already be in place.
PHOTOGRAPHS
AND VIDEO EQUIPMENT
We discourage the use of
individual flash cameras and video recorders as they interfere with this
important religious ceremony. A stationary video camera is allowed
throughout the service. Professional photographs are limited to the
processional, recessional and signing the register. Please discuss your
preference with the Minister.
CONFETTI
No confetti or rice is to be
thrown in the Church building or outside on the Church property.
